Our Approach
Gentle Grooming
At Beautiful Beast, we believe in the gentle grooming approach. This goes beyond just keeping your pet looking cute; it's about their overall well-being. When we take the time to gently groom your pets, we're not only tending to their physical appearance but also nurturing their emotional and physical health.
We believe that our gentle grooming acts as a holistic care regimen for your pet. Our groomers focus on their outward appearance but also nurture their emotional and physical well-being. By incorporating gentle grooming practices into your pet's routine, you're not only keeping them looking their best but also ensuring they feel happy, comfortable, and healthy from the inside out.
Our groomers take their time to provide a safe space for your fur baby and maintain the health of your pet's skin and coat. By removing dirt, excess fur, and tangles, you're preventing skin irritation, matting, and potential infections. Plus, it gives our groomers a chance to check for any abnormalities like lumps, bumps, or parasites, allowing you to catch any potential health issues early.
It's a bonding experience that can help them feel more comfortable and secure in their environment and bring you closer to your furry friend.
Vaccines & Titering
Beautiful Beast understands the concerns surrounding over-vaccination and the potential side effects it can have, including the concept of vaccine miasms. That's why we've developed a protocol that prioritizes the well-being of your furry friend. Instead of requiring proof of vaccination, we ask for a signed agreement confirming that your dog has been vaccinated within the past 5 years or has undergone titer testing. Titer testing is a specialized procedure that checks for antibodies, offering an alternative to frequent vaccination by determining if your dog still has sufficient immunity.
Additionally, we maintain rigorous hygiene standards on our mobile grooming van. Between each appointment, we meticulously sanitize using an approved veterinary-grade disinfectant. This ensures that every pet stepping aboard for their spa day enjoys a clean and safe environment. At Beautiful Beast, we're dedicated to providing top-notch care for your beloved companion, both inside and out.
The reason that Beautiful Beast prefers antibody titers in comparison to over-vaccinating is because over-vaccination can cause vaccine miasms which is a term used to describe an idea like ‘vaccine damage” or “vaccine injury. This means vaccines can potentially have a long-lasting effect on our pet’s body beyond their immediate intended purpose of stimulating immunity against specific diseases. Over-vaccination may disrupt the body's natural balance or vitality, leading to chronic health issues or predispositions to certain diseases.
It's essential to consult with a qualified veterinarian for guidance regarding vaccination decisions for pets. Vaccination protocols can be created for the individual pet's health needs, and considerations of disease prevalence and risk factors in their environment.
You and your vet may decide to move forward with ‘Titers’ which are laboratory tests that measure the concentration of specific antibodies in a dog's blood. Titer testing involves taking a blood sample from the dog and analyzing it to determine the level of antibodies present against certain diseases, such as distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, and rabies. These antibodies indicate the dog's immune response to previous vaccinations or natural exposure to these diseases.
The results of titer testing can help veterinarians assess whether a dog has sufficient immunity against certain diseases without the need for additional vaccinations. If the titer levels are high enough, it suggests that the dog is protected against the disease and may not require immediate revaccination.
It can be particularly beneficial for dogs with health conditions that may make vaccination risky or for pet owners who prefer to minimize the number of vaccinations their pets receive.
Benefits of Titers:
- Risk of Adverse Reactions: Vaccines, like any medical intervention, carry a small risk of adverse reactions. Over-vaccination increases the frequency of exposure to these risks, which can include mild reactions like soreness at the injection site or lethargy, as well as more severe reactions such as allergic reactions or autoimmune disorders.
- Immune System Overload: Repeated vaccinations can put stress on a dog's immune system. While vaccines are designed to stimulate the immune system to produce protective antibodies, excessive vaccination may overwhelm the immune system's capacity to respond effectively. This can potentially lead to immune system dysregulation or weaken the dog's ability to mount an appropriate immune response to other threats.
- Risk of Vaccine-Associated Sarcomas: In rare cases, certain vaccines (particularly injectable vaccines) have been associated with the development of sarcomas, a type of cancerous tumor, at the injection site. Over-vaccination increases the cumulative exposure to these potential risks.
- Duration of Immunity: Many vaccines provide long-lasting immunity that may persist for several years or even a lifetime in some cases. Over-vaccination may occur when dogs receive unnecessary booster shots for diseases against which they already have sufficient immunity, based on the duration of immunity conferred by previous vaccinations.
Nutrition
Throughout our journey in the pet industry, the Beautiful Beast team has discovered the importance of canine nutrition and that it lies in embracing a biologically appropriate diet. So what is a biologically appropriate diet? A diet rich in whole foods that mimic what dogs would eat in their natural habitat. This approach emphasizes feeding dogs foods that closely resemble the diet of their wild ancestors, including high-quality proteins, healthy fats, and minimally processed ingredients. By focusing on biologically appropriate nutrition, they believe that dogs can thrive with diets that support their evolutionary biology and natural nutritional needs. Just like us, dogs possess a delicate ecosystem within their gut known as the microbiome. When they consume highly processed kibble and canned foods packed with fillers like corn syrup, it disrupts the balance of their beneficial gut bacteria. This disturbance in their microbiome can manifest in various health issues, including skin irritations, autoimmune disorders, and digestive troubles. Over time, these disruptions may even pave the way for more severe health complications.
Examples of a biologically appropriate diet are raw or homecooked.
